This sensual yearning for knowledge, this insatiable wanderlust, this long desire.
My travels through Asia, Europe, Australia, the Americas and other destinations around the world.

Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten is a well-known cruise line port of call which is both a blessing and a curse, with its duty-free shops on the Dutch side of the island I much prefer the French side with its laid-back attitude, fine food, pristine beaches, unspoiled nature.

Slovenia

As a travel destination, Slovenia is often overlooked compared to its more established neighbors to the East and North but Slovenia has a lot to offer with its beautiful natural scenery and its lovely capital of Ljubjana. We came away very impressed when we made our first visit in 2018.

Hrastovlje

The 12th-century Holy Trinity Church in Hrastovlje was fortified in the 1500s to defend it against Turkish attacks. The high defensive wall which surrounds the church means that from a distance only the top of the tower can be seen peeking out above the walls. Inside, the church hides a beautiful secret.

Chocolate Festival & Truffle Hunting

Hidden in the soil of the Slovenian Istria grow special, aromatic, mysterious mushrooms – truffles. With nine edible species, their harvesting seasons differing from one species to another, they are always in season. After our hunt we had a delicious lunch.

Spectacular caves have been forming for thousands of years with more than 10.000 registered caves in Slovenia, with about 100 newly discovered each year you are not short of choices. In 2018 we visited the Caves of Škocjan.

Spain

Our trip to Spain grew somewhat organically from our original destination of Italy to visit our nephew, wife and new-born son. I had never been to Barcelona before and added Madrid and Segovia for good measure. Be sure to eat at La Boqueria Market in Barcelona and try the Daus d’espatlla de Gla Ibèrica (Dried Beef).

Switzerland

The Glacier Express that runs from St Moritz to Zermatt in Switzerland has been called the slowest Express train in all of Europe. The rack railroad takes about 9 hours to complete the trip and what a glorious trip it was.

Taiwan Tour (Republic of China)

The former island redoubt of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek is a thriving economy in the growing shadow of its Communist neighbor. The island is a second home to many US-based Chinese.

Thailand

Thailand beckons with many attractions from its white-sand beaches, its hustle, and bustle of Bangkok to its laid-back charm of Chiang Mai. I’ve always found the Thai people gentle and welcoming. Sometimes maybe a little too welcoming, hoping to separate you from some of your well-earned cash as they propose to show you some of the country’s other charms.

Bangkok

Traveling to Thailand I got my first taste of Asia since my arrival in Singapore in September. While Singapore is a homogenized version, Bangkok represents the real noise and chaos of Asia.

United States

The United States is a very large country and you only begin to realize it after you take a road trip which we did to several National Parks and Monuments, and after visiting both coasts not to mention the Pacific islands of Hawaii and the Caribbean Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco

8 Apr 2015 13

Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission. The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques. Wave hello to the sea lions at Pier 39, and sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building or marvel at the Dutch Windmill across from Ocean Beach.

Vietnam

Vietnam is what I call “a long country”, the distance between it’s two main cities, Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) and Hanoi being 1,724 km or 31 hours by car, more than it takes to drive from Los Angelos to Chicago. It has a coastline of 3,260 km.

Hanoi

Hanoi

Hanoi, located on the banks of the Red River, is one of the most ancient capitals in the world, where travellers can find well-preserved colonial buildings, ancient pagodas, and unique museums within the city centre. A great place to explore on foot, this French-colonial city is also known for its delectable cuisine, vibrant nightlife, silks and handicrafts, as well as a multi-cultural community that’s made up of Chinese, French and Russian influences.
