Alfa Romeo have every reason to regard the Targa Florio race in Sicily
with great pride, for they have won the event no fewer than 9 times
- 1923, 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935 (it must have been
getting a shade monotonous by then), 1950 and 1971. The particular
event shown in this very colorful painting of the start-finish area,
with the pits to the right is the 1932 race, held on 8 May and won
by Nuvolari in a 2300 Monza in 7hr 15min 50.6sec, with Borzacchini
second in another Monza in 7hr 21min 10.6sec. Chiron and Varzi,
sharing a Bugatti, took third place in 7hr 35min 28.6sec.
